Keratin 17 modulates hair follicle cycling in a TNF[alpha]-dependent fashion
Article Abstract:
Keratin 17(K17) is essential for hair follicle growth as K17 null mice show alopecia in the first week of post birth, correlating with hair shaft fragility and untimely apoptosis in the hair bulb. K17-null skin keratinocytes are sensitive to TNF[alpha] and this TNF[alpha] is required for a timely anagn-catagen transition in mouse pelage follicles and this rescues the hair cycling defect of K17-null mice showing that K17 and TNF[alpha} are two novel and independent regulators of hair cycling.

MIM/BEG4, a sonic hedgehog-responsive gene that potentiates Gli- dependent transcription
Article Abstract:
The actin-binding protein Missing in Metastasis (MIM) was identified as a new responsive gene. Data obtained by examining cDNA microarray expression profiles from regenerated human epidermis expressing sonic hedgehog (Shh) demonstrates that MIM is a new member of the Shh signaling pathway and implicate MIM in the regulation of Gli target gene responses during both development and tumorigenesis.

Intermediate filament scaffolds fulfill mechanical, organizational, and signaling functions in the cytoplasm
Article Abstract:
Intermediate filaments (IFs), the cytoskeletal polymers provide structural support in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Several additional nonmechanical roles were discovered for IFs recently which include the regulation of key signaling pathway controlling cell survival, cell growth and vectorial processes like protein targeting in cellular settings.
